Suspended Harare City town clerk Hosiah Abraham Chisango’s perjury and criminal abuse of office trial has been postponed after State Prosecutor Zivanai Macharaga failed to attend court today.

Prosecutor Zivanai Macharaga is handling the matter. Chisango, is being charged with perjury and criminal abuse of office arising from the Pokugara land dispute in Borrowdale Harare. The State, led by Zivanai Macharaga alleges that sometime in 2018 at the High Court of Zimbabwe Civil Division, Harare, Chisango, in his own capacity and representing City of Harare filed a false written statement in case HC 8943/18 and lied in that affidavit that there was no payment that was made to the 2nd accused person (Harare City Council) for approval of building plans which were attached to land developer Georgios Katsimberis’ founding affidavit when infact a payment of US$3,707 had been processed.

“Hosiah Chisango in his personal capacity and as well as the Town Clerk representative of 2nd Accused jointly filed a false written statement in case HC 8943/18 knowingly or realizing that there was real risk or possibility that the statement was false.

“And lied in that affidavit that there was no payment that was made to the 2nd accused person for the approval of building plans which were attached to the applicant’s founding affidavit in case HC 8943/19 when in actual fact payment of US$3,797,00 was made to the 2nd Applicant for such approval,” reads Court documents.

Chisango also reportedly lied that the show house built by Katsimberis was built without approved building plans. This prompted the demolition of Katsimberis’ show house he had build at Pokugara Properties worth
US$300,000. Contrary to the above, Katsimberis stressed that it was one or both of the accused person who made such an application for approval of building plan for stand 8.

Chisango is now a habitué of the Rotten Row Magistrates Court following the wide range of charges confronting him. They include criminal abuse of office and corruption in the form of shoddy land dealings in Harare and illegal parceling out of land among several others.

He will be back in court on the 18th of October 2021.
