ZANU PF Secretary for Administration Dr Obert Mpofu has called upon citizens to be vigilant in the fight against covid-19 during the winter season.

Dr Mpofu said the call by President Mnangagwa cautioning people on the threat of an impending upsurge of the Covid-19 virus during the winter season should be strongly adhered to.

“This winter our medical experts have predicted the emergence of a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, not only in Zimbabwe, but globally due to the Governments allowing huge public gatherings that have turned out to be huge super spreader events.

“Consequently we reaffirm the statement issued by the Zimbabwe Republic Police last week warning bar and restaurant owners who continue to openly defy and violate Covid-19 restrictions by continuing their operations clandestinely encouraging imbibing of alcohol within their closed premises.

“However, our country continues to stand firm in the fight against this virus,” said Dr Mpofu.

Cde Mpofu also commended the City of Victoria Falls for reaching herd immunity as the country hopes to see the revitalisation of the tourism industry.

“Comrades it is pleasing to note that we have vaccinated the entire adult population of Victoria Falls. We hope to see this tourist destination recouping its diminishing market share within the global tourist sector. Also the current gradually opening up of our airspace will realise the revitalisation of the tourism industry,” he said.

To date the country’s vaccination update stands at a total of over 300 000 people who have received their first dose and a total of over 53 000 people have received their second dose.
